On Thursday (May 24, 2018) a man walked into a restaurant, opened fire and shot two people. He then left the restaurant where an armed citizen shot and killed the shooter.
I don’t know all the details about just how the shooting by the armed citizen went down. But, here I pose a question:
Would it be proper or legal to simply shoot this man who you just witnessed shooting two innocent people?
1 If your life, or anyone else’s, is not in immediate danger, you do not have legal justification to shoot another person.
2 You just witnessed him shooting two people, but you do not know if he will continue on and shoot other people somewhere else.
Sure we all “feel” it is the right thing to do, probably even the police who will likely rule it a justifiable shooting.
But what about the family member who will sue you, and their attorney who will argue that you did not have justifiable cause to shoot and kill this man.
Please let me know your thoughts on this scenario.
