You’re attending class on a University campus. We will assume, although I know it is a bit of a fantasy, that you are permitted to carry a concealed firearm. While You are carrying on campus, you receive word that there is an active shooter somewhere on campus, firing shots. Everyone is panicking and running for safety. You decide to remain calm, alert, and on campus as everyone else is running to get away.
You’re now Walking the Halls, alone, with your handgun presented at the low ready. As you round a corner you spot a person at the opposite end of a hallway with a gun. What do you think, what do you do? Is this person the active shooter? Or is this another law abiding citizen with a legal permit carrying on campus? Note: he/she is probably thinking the same thing you are? So seriously, in the stress of the situation are you likely to shoot. Or get in a stand off with this person, not knowing what to do. Meanwhile the real active shooter is somewhere around, maybe to come upon you at any moment.
What would you do?
Note that this is probably one of the scenarios that the anti-gun people will point to for why concealed carry should not be allowed on campus, students walking around shooting each other.
