I searched Meetup and see if there were any groups of Interest to me. I found a group called Nevada Gun Group, that sounded promising. I joined to become a member, and started receiving notices of their upcoming Meetups.
I received notice of an upcoming Meetup that sounded interesting, and was at a date and time I might be able to attend. I didn’t want to click, the green check mark, that I was going, because I wasn’t sure if I could make it. I was unfamiliar with the proper protocol. Should I “check” that I was going, and maybe not show up? Or, was it okay to just show up?
This would be my first Meetup, so I posted the following question in the comments section:
“Must I check that I am going, or may I just show up? I work a difficult schedule. Off work at 5am. It would be hard to just stay up. I would want to sleep and hope I can get up and go after only three hours sleep. But I want to give it a try”.
I received no reply. So when the day came, and I was able to make it work and attend, I drove to the Meetup location. The Meetup was at Skinny Fats on Dean Martin Rd.
I experienced a little trouble finding how to get to the location, I misread the map and took an incorrect route trying to get there. I was on Russel Rd. heading east when I drove “over” Dean Martin Dr.” Trying to think quickly on how I could there, I got on the freeway and headed north to where I could onto Dean Martin. I was about twenty minutes late when I finally arrived at the location; a fast food establishment I had never been to. I parked, and went inside.
The dining area was very small. I spotted the guys (from their photos) across the room, but there was no room at their table for me to join them. I stood there awhile feeling a little uncertain. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I left. Oh well, I needed sleep anyway.
I’ll admit it was my fault for being late. However, maybe in the future the group will find a meeting location with more room to accommodate larger participation and growth in the Meetup.
